THE MASTER PLAN
In 2013, the City of Phoenix hired an international design team to reimagine Hance Park. The goal of the redesign is to redevelop Hance Park into a vibrant urban park and signature destination that becomes a catalyst for positive change in the community.
Signature parks throughout the nation are unique, must-see spaces that inspire community pride, economic development, and tourism.
Great cities need great parks. Donate today to make this plan a reality.
The new Hance Park will be divided into three primary zones, connected by the Cloud - a series of breathtaking, integrated entryways and shade structures enhanced by a futuristic hexagonal design.
ZONE 1: THE VALLEY
Closer to the downtown neighborhoods west of Central Avenue, the Valley is the tranquil, family-oriented zone of the park. Shade structures and water features will cool the zone to sustain a pleasant microclimate, while guests of the park zipline through the air from the Butte, a modernly-inspired mountain installation.
ZONE 2: THE CANYON
Consolidated around Central Avenue, the Canyon is the beating heart of Hance Park. The urban plaza will feature a splash pad, multiple gardens, jumping fountains and a cuisine center, while pedestrian and bike lanes connect and pulse throughout the entire park.
ZONE 3: THE PLATEAU
The third zone will feature a performance terrace, as well as a sculpture garden and other public art installations. Plenty of outdoor lawn space makes the Plateau the perfect location to host large events and activities.
